Today I’m going to share with you an easy and instant mood booster. Hint: You already possess it and it’s totally free and has no side effects.
Today the topic is about finding ways to elevate our mood so life becomes and feels better.
It’s so simple you won’t even believe it! So here it it. I’m doing it right now. I’m smiling.
Scientists have found that smiling creates a happiness feedback loop in our brains
So when we feel happy our brains feels happy, endorphins are produced and neuronal signals are transmitted to your facial muscles to trigger a smile. This is the start of the positive feedback loop of happiness. When our smiling muscles contract, they fire a signal back to the brain, stimulating our reward system, and further increasing our level of happy hormones, or endorphins. In short, when our brain feels happy, we smile; when we smile, our brain feels happier.
Furthermore, smiling also brings health benefits, like reducing anxiety, as well as lowering your blood pressure and heart rate. The happiness level that a smile can bring to our brains is estimated as equivalent to that of having 2,000 bars of chocolate, or getting £16,000. Imagine that!
Do you feel gloomy and that there is nothing in your life to smile about? Try and give a broad smile out. Just hold it there. Now whilst you smile try and have negative thoughts. It just can’t happen. The brain will not allow it. The physical aspect of a smile or of just pulling your cheeks out stops the brain to indulge in anything that does not harmonise with the act of smiling.
Does faking a smile sound hard to you? No worries. Just be with someone who smiles.
A Swedish study found that it is indeed difficult to keep a long face when you look at people who are smiling at you.
Smiling is just contagious! Seeing people smile stimulates our mirror neurones to suppress our facial muscle control, and trigger a smile. ‘You smile, I smile’ is actually a scientific fact!
Below you will find links to some of the researches made on the topic.
So here you are your instant mood booster: smile.
Either you give yourself reasons to smile, be with smiling / happy people or you just contact your cheek muscles the production of the happy hrmones will reduce your stress, anxiety and sadness and improve your mood.
