Self-care is not selfish! Self-care allows the happiest most authentic you to be present in the most influential way. This can change everything for all the people who come into contact with you! When you make your needs a priority you are a happier, kinder, and more positive you. When you are happy, you are more willing to take risks. When you are willing to take risks you allow yourself to think outside of your comfort zone and we all know that is where the magic happens.
I know what you’re thinking, Krista what you are saying is unrealistic, I don’t have time. I have to work, run errands, and/or take care of my family! There’s no “me time” in my schedule! But I’m telling you friends, it’s possible!
Now, I’m not so naive to think we can be self-caring and loving all the time. I know life isn’t all unicorns and rainbows. I sometimes fall into the bitter mom/wife trap too. It sounds a little like this…I always do….They never….He doesn’t… and the list goes on and on. Can you relate?
When I feel a Bitter Betty moment coming, I know I need to stop and take CARE of me. What am I needing that I am not giving to myself? This feeling is always a red flag, I have neglected something I need and now I am hoping someone else will replace it rather than me taking care of me. It isn’t anyone else’s responsibility to give me anything. I must provide for myself first what my soul needs.
So what happens? For me enters unrealistic expectations and disappointment. Ahhhhh. . Grrrrrrrr. Arggggg.
This is my cue to STOP and check myself before I wreck myself (ha!) Sometimes that self-care looks like a 15 to 30 minute adventure and that is enough to soothe the soul and then there are times where you just need to leave the state for a few days with your best girlfriend. BOTH are ok and not a selfish acts. You are self-aware enough to know and understand that you need the break. This doesn’t mean you love your kids, husband or friends any less, it means you care so much about them to keep “you” balanced and able to continuously pour sunshine and glitter into their lives!
So how can we stay ahead of the Bitter Betty curve? Here’s how: Be mindful of our own self-care..
This week take the time to…
Bathe/Soak
Get a Mani/Pedi
Get your hair done
Nap
Have quiet time
Read a book or magazine
Color
Coffee and journal
Listen to adult music (sorry Disney not today)
Spend time in the garden, plant a garden
WHATEVER makes your little heart feel delighted, do it. Take the time to care for yourself today or this week. Feed your soul the fuel that it needs and watch how effortless it becomes to pour into others.
Take ACTION: Put it on your calendar let the kids, friends, mom, hubs, wife, crazy neighbors know, on this day at this time I am taking care of ME! Be intentional! You deserve this.
I would LOVE to hear what you did to take care of you this week or what you plan to do! Take a picture and use the hashtag #KmoreLOVE so I can follow your story! Get friends to join in on the fun and share this weeks self-love post!
Better Together,
Krista Moreland
